Translation of cultivated in German

My mom and dad used to speak English when they wanted to say something I shouldn't understand. In this way I have learned English. I did not tell them till late, but I did understand every word they said.
I've never been to Switzerland, but I've been thinking about visiting it for a long time. Until now I was only in France and Holland. I should take the time and travel and visit new places.
I'm helping you with Spanish and you can help me with English. How did you teach yourself the grammar? Here in Zurich it has being raining for 5 days and we have spent most of the time in front of the TV.
